Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta Files 5 Trademark Applications For Possible Crypto Exchange – Meta Pay

Meta, the technology company behind the social media giants facebook and instagram, branded apps that suggest the company might be developing its own cryptocurrency trading platform. 

According to tweets from veteran attorney Josh Gerben, Mark Zuckerberg's firm has filed five applications in the us for the so-called "meta pay" service.

Included in the fillings are details regarding a platform that provides trading facilities for digital assets and tokens powered by blockchain. The service could also enter into investment management and virtual asset lending.

Right from the press, the technology heavyweight has not confirmed or denied the development although the company has locked down a domain name for the platform in 2021 for a massive $60 million.

Meta Jumps Into NFTs and Web3 

Facebook and Instagram will unveil support for NFTs per comments from CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The billionaire confirmed that testing functionality for digital collectibles was underway as of last week, as reported by

Some users also said that Instagram implemented partial access to the functionality for a select group of creators.

This is not the first time Facebook (now Meta) has entered into the blockchain space. The company previously backed and would have helped to develop libra/diem, a stablecoin token.

However, the company closed the curtain on the idea amid growing pressure from regulators in multiple jurisdictions and instead chose to sell the project to Silvergate Bank.
