FinCEN's acting director will bid farewell to the organization this April. He was replaced by Michael Mosier, former Chainalysis chief technical counsel.

“Director Blanco announced he will depart FinCEN on April 9, after serving as the organization’s director since December 2017. Michael Mosier, former FinCEN Deputy Director and current Counselor to the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, will return to FinCEN as Acting Director.”

Blanco was the government agency’s eighth director. As the agency’s eighth director, Blanco served in the position for years.According to the statement, before becoming deputy director, Acting Director Michael Mosier, currently Deputy Director at FinCEN, will return to FinCEN as the organization’s Deputy Secretary.Lou Tirol was the associate director of its Strategic Operations Division at FinCEN. On April 11, Mosier will begin his duties as acting director.

An agency has not been the first to hire someone with crypto experience. President Biden chose Gary Gensler as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC. Gensler is well-educated on the crypto industry as he taught an in-depth course on the subject at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT, in 2018.

While working for Chainalysis, Mosier spent time on contracts with FinCEN, since what is now the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as multiple U.S. government positions.

After stepping down, Blanco said he is proud to have made the decision to leave an incredible organization that focuses on national security, which has a profound effect on the day-to-day lives of those who are vulnerable. I trust Mr. Mosier and Ms. Tirol to forward the progress of the bureau and protect our national security and people from harm."

U.S. government agencies have become increasingly involved in the crypto industry over time.
