Fidelity Hires Barclays' Former Head of Digital Assets

Financial services giant Fidelity Investments has hired a former head of digital assets project at investment bank Barclays.

The new hire, Chris Tyrer, joined Fidelity at the end of April, according to his LinkedIn profile update. Newcomer Chris Tyrer joined Fidelity in late April based on his LinkedIn profile update.

The profile, however, does not include additional role details, except for "Digital Assets". Previously, he was responsible for raw materials trading at the bank between 2015 and 2017.

Tyrer's been to barclays before. He joined the bank in 2001, where he served until 2011 as director and global head of crude oil trade. Later, in the last three years or so, He also worked for Mercuria Energy Group as the primary crude oil dealer, Then back in Barclays in 2015, profile-related.

In his most recent role at Barclays, Tyrer reportedly worked on exploring the cryptocurrency space.

Barclays  to launch a cryptocurrency trading desk last year, but later the bank’s CEO pushed back saying that there are no immediate plans to open the desk.

Later, the bank's CEO delayed by saying there were no immediate plans to open the office.

Fidelity, having over $7 trillion assets under management, launched its cryptocurrency trading and custody platform last month.
