German automaker bmw plans to integrate blockchain technology into its day-to-day business and create a blockchain loyalty program for its customers in Thailand. The popular automobile manufacturer has integrated blockchain enterprise infrastructure coinweb as its provider of decentralized architecture and bnb chain for the settlement of transactions.

The integration of blockchain technology in the bmw workflow will be carried out in two phases. First, decentralized technology will be integrated into BMW's day-to-day operations to automate time-consuming manual processes and simplify its automotive finance services.

The second phase of the project would see coinweb develop an application web3 personalized for the program of loyalty of the customers of bmw. The program will use blockchain-based rewards to encourage customers of the BMW Group. The level and status of a client in the ecosystem will be determined by the loyalty rewards they earn through different actions.

Owners will be able to use their rewards to purchase goods and services from BMW as well as from a linked ecosystem in the future. The native BINANCE bnb string will be used to settle trades.

How will clients be rewarded in the next retention program?, Coinweb President and Chief Executive, Toby Gilbert, said to Cointelegraph that customers will be rewarded whenever they have points of contact with BMW's ecosystem, Whether it is "the purchase of a new car or they go for a service", he further explained:

Customers will receive loyalty points and can spend in the ecosystem. While we look forward to a global deployment in the future, our current partnership is with Thailand."

Bjorn Antonsson, director of leasing at BMW Thailand, said the company is actively following the progress of decentralised technology and its different use cases over the years. Antonsson hoped that incorporating blockchain technology into their day-to-day operations would eliminate manual red tape and contribute to the efficiency and transparency of the company.

Automakers' interest in decentralised technology is not new, and bmw has been involved in technology since 2018. BMW first used blockchain technology to track its cobalt supply and ensure its products are being supplied using ethical practices. Apart from BMW, another popular German carmaker Mercedes has actively used nonfungible tokens and crypto coins as promotional tools.

Italian carmaker Alfa Romeo used blockchain tech to track car records, while Ferrari’s new deal has hinted at NFT integration as well.
