This is Starkware Sessions 2023, at Tel Aviv's Cameri Theatre, Israel, Starkware co-founder Eli Ben-Sasson informed the audience that the company has the intention of open source "key tech" connected with the Starknet Prover. At the event, the co-founder of the scaling project Ethereum said that it marks an 'important step towards scaling up Ethereum and cryptography.'

The Ethereum scaling project, Starkware, has declared that the team intends to open source the component of Starknet known as the Starknet Prover. This component produces crypto evidence for compressed transaction groups. Starkware has already open-sourced the project’s software, , and the programming language, Cairo 1.0. The announcement of the open sourcing of the Starknet Prover was made at the Starkware Sessions 2023 conference in Tel Aviv, Israel.

At the event, attendees learned about technologies such as storage proofs and the launch of a plug-and-play full-node called Starknode by Kasar Labs. “This is a landmark moment for scaling Ethereum and, in a broader sense, for cryptography,” said Eli Ben-Sasson, co-founder and president of Starkware. 'We consider the prover to be the magical wand of austere technology. It wonderfully generates evidence that allows for unfathomable scale,' said starkware's executive.

Starknet has been operational since November 2021. The project made many breakthroughs in 2022, including the papyrus and cairo open sourcing. In March 2022, the blockchain API and node service, Alchemy, announced its use of the Ethereum layer two (L2) service, Starknet. The next month, makerdao plans to integrate starknet to cut the costs of dais transfer. At the end of Dec. 2022, payment giant Visa published a blog post discussing the leveraging of Ethereum and the L2 service, Starknet.

In Nov. 2022, Starkware established a nonprofit foundation with the aim of enhancing the development of the software and the Starknet infrastructure. The co-founder of the project said that, of course, brutal technology is not in fact magical. On the contrary, the Starknet Prover is "sound cryptography" and society wants "anyone who wants to do their own." The company's president added that developers and software engineers 'should have a comprehensive understanding of how it operates, can change the code, and hand it out further."

Starkware and its Starknet project are part of the many Ethereum and L2 scale-up projects, with competition becoming important in the last two years. Users have a variety of solutions to choose from, including Arbitrum, Optimism, Loopring, Zksync, Metis, Polygon, Hermez, Immutable X, Aztec, and Boba Network. On the fifth of February, 2023, the average cost for taking advantage of the Starknet ZK generalization was $0.21 per transfer, whereas the exchange cost of a token through Starknet was $0.52, on a daily basis.
