Polygon, the layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, has announced the open source of its decentralised identity service dubbed Polygon ID.
The latter new polygon focuses on a development aimed at bringing digital confidence into web3 one step closer to reality, said the polygon labs team.
As highlighted in a blog post, the zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs-powered solution will help ensure a “more equitable internet.”

Polygon ID is privacy-focused solution that leverages the technology behind the Iden3 protocol and Circom ZK toolkit, Polygon Labs noted.
According to the platform, the decentralized id service infrastructure is delivered with four tools designed to help developers build and deploy the best private, decentralized and autonomous id solutions. Polygon Labs tweeted:
“This Identity Infrastructure allows anyone to become an issuer, verifier, or holder of a Web3 identity. Off-chain data can now be used for trustless, on-chain verifications in a Verified Credential format.”
Polygon ID leverages Iden3 and the Circom ZK toolkits, allowing Web3 users to authenticate without risking their other sensitive information.
The polygon identification tool set consists of a Verifier SDK, a Portfolio SDK, an Issuer Node and a Portfolio Application. Any polygon-based developer can leverage these tools to embed digital identifiers into applications. Integration can be applied to all use cases, such as KYC implementation, login without password and online integration.
Polygon ID unlocks a host of use cases, like:

A number of projects have already integrated the identification solution, including IoT and blockchain enterprise Blockchain Lock, digital passport platform?Click, web3 game the sandbox, p2p payment vendor?Depay, web3 kaleido infrastructure platform and nft wallet and komet aggregater.
Polygon ID is available to the public almost a year after its introduction, while as reported, the Polygon zkEVM beta is scheduled to go live this March.
