During a recent interview, British computer scientist Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee, who is best known as the inventor of the World Wide Web, explained why he thinks that cryptocurrencies are “really dangerous.”

He wrote the first Web browser, Web server and Web page, and his work paved the way for the development of today's modern Internet. Berners-lee is also known for its advocacy for net neutrality and its work to promote an open and decentralized web available to all. In addition, he has received many honours for his contributions in the area of information technology, including Queen Elizabeth II's knighthood and the Turing Prize, often called the "Nobel Prize-winning computer science."

According to a report by CNBC, in a recent episode of CNBC’s “Beyond The Valley” podcast, Berners-Lee, who is the director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), criticized cryptocurrencies, calling them “really dangerous” and comparing them to the dot-com bubble. Berners-lee expressed concern over the speculative nature of digital currencies and referred to it as a form of gambling. He made the point that investing in purely speculative things is different from where he would like to spend his time. However, berners-lee recognized the potential of cryptocurrencies for remittances, as long as they are immediately converted into fiduciary currency upon receipt.

With John Bruce, berners-lee aims to redesign the future of the Internet through their introduction of start-ups to give people more control over their data. In an conversation with cnbc, They both talked about the Internet's future, and berners-lee pointed out that the future of the internet is "web 3.0," that it has distinguished from web3.

Whereas some supporters see the web3 as a decentralized Internet that takes some power away from technology giants such as facebook and Google, berners-lee said web 3.0 is its proposal for the remodeling of the internet, It's not a blockchain, He sees a need for faster and safer technology.
