It is now a year since the Plan Initiative was launched in the city of Lugano. To date, the plan has delivered cryptography to over 150 stores and businesses across the city. Consequently, the limited tether operations (tether), the enterprise behind usdt stablecoin, joined the city to celebrate this achievement.
When The Plan was launched, the city of Lugano announced that Bitcoin (BTC), Tether (USDT), and the city’s own LVGA token would be accepted as payment for taxes, parking tickets, tuition fees, and public services. To date, more than 150 companies and stores, including Mcdonald, have also begun accepting USDT, BTC and LVGA in addition to fiduciary money as payment for goods and services.
To celebrate the completion of a successful year for The Initial Plan, Tether and the city of Lugano, on March 3, 2023, announced the launch of the Business Hub Plan.
The Plan Business Hub
The Plan Business Hub will help explore the potential take-up of blockchain technology in companies and the long-term use of cryptocurrencies in the European region.
The hub will welcome over 300 experts and blockchain enthusiasts and will serve as the world reference point in lugano. It will also host a recreation space for educational and developmental meetings and workshops. The program is designed to attract talent and foster networking and knowledge sharing.
Lugano's mayor, Michele Foletti, commented on the project in the following terms:
The objective of this collaboration is to transform Lugano into a centre of excellence in the field of blockchain technologies. In the first 12 months we have seen increasing interest and lugano is now definitively on the world map, with a handful of other destinations. The strength of Lugano’s Plan ? Is that he was able to prove the real use of blockchain technologies by practically applying it to the local communities of lugano. Businesses of all sizes and sizes have started to take advantage of blockchain platforms to improve their processes, and we see them right in front of us as Lugano is becoming a template for global cryptocurrency adoption.”
From the launch of the Plan, Lugano played host to many networks, outreach, and educational events that drew people from all over the world to learn and discuss the possibilities offered by blockchain technology and the adoption of cryptocurrencies. For example, 86 students from 26 countries visited the city over the past year for the very first summer school of the plan, a two-week intensive tether program taught by internationally renowned business experts, regulatory, and the technological fallout from blockchain and bitcoin.
There is a scholarship of 500 students to future students of the summer program. In the coming months, Tether and the city of Lugano are teaming up to offer extra scholarships to university students.
For the 2023 calendar, there is the 2023 Plan Forum in Lugano to be held from 20 to 21 October. Tether will also continue its summer curriculum with two sessions in the spring and summer of 2023.
