I wouldn't bet money on an online mini-game called "Dookey Dash" to bring many things back to life, and certainly not the entire sub-section of a niche crypto corner. However, the first capture of Yuga Labs at a mini-game of "Incarnate Monkeys" made waves this month. While the relatively simple game will not reinvent the wheel, it prompts dialogue and discussion at what could be a timely time in cryptography.

If timing is right and bullish market conditions reappear, could Yuga's Dookey Dash minigame be considered the turning point that brought GameFi back to life?

Cool me down... gamefi?

If there is one issue that has been relegated to the background during downturns in the marketplace, it is gamefi. In early 2022, before the downward winds of the market changed, this was one of the hottest topics of discussion in the crypto and information technology communities. Many thought GameFi was the next step, and the momentum around titles such as Axie Infinity was to rally hard.

By the end of Q1, the market was losing momentum, and of course the rest of the year showed few players in crypto favors. Gamefi has indeed been pushed to the background, although the NFT market has continued to advance.

Could the uptrend of the market be in the near future crypto? If this is the case, the gamefi is perhaps in an excellent position to keep up the momentum that declined a year ago.

Yuga Labs & ‘Dookey Dash’

Yuga Labs has long expressed desire to build a broader metaverse with gamified elements, utilizing properties like Bored Apes and Mutant Apes. In between dash dookey, the first attempt at these efforts. The title is a simple web minigame that allows owners of monkeys and mutants to use their nft to search for a high score. It is believed that the winner receives a customary monkey 1 of 1.

Some of the hype was powered by ancient esports professionals and content creators playing to win. Look no further than the ancient Mongraal Fortnite legend, which posted the best score at least twice.

Mongraal has nearly a million dollars in official Fortnite earnings and was a staple player in the most competitive region in the game. In the rare occasions that Mongraal has streamed on Twitch in recent months, he has averaged roughly 8,500 viewers – and now he stands to potentially earn more money from a mini-game than he did over years of grinding Fortnite.

Even more striking could be the role of the mongraal in amplifying the fatal wave towards more traditional players – a central pillar of gamefi growth that we have yet to see.
